If you enjoyed, Maddie Day's "Flipped For Murder", or Preston Norton's "Marrow", or Kathy Reichs' "Virals" you may also really enjoy this novel because the writing style is similar.
If you enjoyed J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, you may also really enjoy this novel because its about witches and wizards, but this story evolves around a young woman and takes place in modern day Colorado.
A magical action adventure about a young woman discovering her hidden powers.
Unbeknownst to Georgia Jacobs, her family history in witchcraft makes her the best choice to help Alan Jarre & the secret wizard society of Devil's Head Valley destroy an evil spirit, conjured up to help rebuild a failing fracking empire in Colorado.
Follow her magical and inspiring journey changing from a self-doubting college student to a confident and powerful witch who takes on the evil rogue wizard, Lord Decker.
On her way to class, Georgia Jacobs crosses the beautiful setting of the University of Colorado, Boulder campus to the cozy cafe serving her favorite coffee. She has no idea she is being watched and that her world is about to change.
Alan Jarre, a seemingly unassuming patron at the coffee shop, has been keeping tabs on Georgia on behalf of the secret wizard society of the Devil's Head Valley, nestled in the small Colorado town of Sedalia. Even Alan's wizard training has not yet fully prepared him for the mystery of who is Georgia Jacobs.
Georgia's mother never told her about her deep-rooted magical powers, and she prefers keeping things under wraps since the murder of Georgia's father.
But soon, both Georgia and Alan will learn that someone is trying to control Colorado by taking over the fracking industry with the help of a powerful conjured evil spirit. It is clear that someone is controlling the spirit, and the rogue wizard, Lord Decker, is the main person of interest. Alan is tasked to recruit Georgia, to train her, to guide her and to put her skills to work to help defeat the evil spirit and Lord Decker.
She has always felt different and out of place, but never knew why, until now.
Follow Georgia's inspiring journey from a self-doubting college student to a confident and powerful witch realizing her dream of belonging as she saves Colorado.
An epic fantasy full of adventure, action, magic, mystery and some romance for teens and adults.

I enjoyed this novel. The premise is a new take on a time-honored theme. The main characters are well-drawn. The action is well-paced. The use of real locations and a real world conflict (fracking/no fracking) contributes to verisimilitude. All of this makes it easy for the reader to suspend his disbelief, which is important to all fiction and especially fiction about magic and wizardry. I eagerly await a sequel!
“Georgia Jacobs Rise of Power” is a well-written story with a perfect balance of descriptions and character dialogue that never drags. It is an extremely compelling page-turner which left me wishing for a sequel. I loved the character development and found myself drawn into Georgia’s world, feeling like she was a friend and wanting to know what was happening next.
You don’t have to be “into” the genre of magic to enjoy the story of Georgia Jacobs. There is a great mix of magic and normality. I recommend it to anyone who wants a good story. I know I will read it again at some point.
Read this book, you will not be disappointed!
Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2024 Slip into the author's imagination as he combines the history of Salem to the wonders of the Rocky Mountains. I felt like I was sitting in the coffee shop or hiking the trails of Colorado as I got to know Georgia. The reader could feel her innocence & curiosity as she learned of her destiny. This book is filled with action, creativity and a bit of humor. I felt like I got to know the characters and am eager to learn more… what’s next for Georgia? I anticipate how this story will continue.
